I never though I could spend an entire day at a petrol station and enjoy myself. But there we have it. One of the great things about being a documentary film maker is that you get to immerse yourself in another persons world, for a time, and really understand it, become part of it, then find their story within it. I really enjoyed connecting with the Principal and Staff at Betikama. They had such pride in giving back to the students and helping raise the standards for their people. It was staggering to see that the kids started their school day at 5.30 am and ended it at 9.30 pm. RP

This was a particularly difficult shoot logistically speaking. I think it was partly because the last ten days of shooting went so well- which doesn't always happen in somewhere like The Solomon's. In the end we had to drop one of our key characters which wasted an entire days shoot. But sacrifices need to be made and sometimes you just need to call it. It can be nerve-wracking to drop a story on the ground and change direction completely mid shoot, but you can feel what is going to make for a stronger story and it is exciting.
